Q&A with Zoe Cunningham, Director @ Softwire Technology

HomeContent HubBlogQ&A with Zoe Cunning…

Firstly, please introduce yourself

My name is Zoe Cunningham and I am a Director at Softwire Technology. I’m going to be talking at Women of Silicon Roundabout on the topic of Resilience, which is the theme of this conference. In particular I’m going to be talking about why “Beating yourself up” as a strategy doesn’t work and that there are better things to do instead.

What are you looking forward to at Women of  Silicon Roundabout?

I’m both looking forward to sharing my own talk, which is a subject I’m really passionate about, and connecting with the amazing attendees at the conference. There are a couple of talks that sound fantastic, there’s a talk by Sharon Moore, ‘Fascinating Things That Anyone Can Do’, which sounds amazing. Also all the content on communication, as I feel like communication is something we can always improve on all the time.

What do you see as the biggest challenge currently facing women in technology?

I think the biggest challenge women face in technology collectively, is that we still need to get seats on the table or possibly in some cases more seats at the table. Making sure that we are actually moving past the objective of ‘We need a woman to be participating.’ We need more women, we need 40%, 50% ideally of women participating in all key decisions across society

The theme of the event is Resilience, what does resilience mean to you?

Resilience is really interesting, because it’s something really important that we all need to work on and get better at. I know that I value my own personal resilience and I engage in personal practices, like meditation, to improve my own resilience. So on one side it is something we want to work on, but on the other side it is also an innate part of human nature. We are resilient, we are adaptable, we do thrive even in the face of adversity. It’s one of the great things about being human.

Finally, what can attendees expect from your session at Women of Silicon Roundabout?

At my session I am going to hopefully help you all put to bed this idea that only by being mean to ourselves, can we do more and get the things we want out of life. That actually there are better strategies, better ways and better practical, concrete, tangible things that can help you adopt a new mindset.

Join Zoe Cunningham for her session “Stop Beating Yourself Up: Do This Instead” at Women of Silicon Roundabout on 22-23rd November.
