Firstly, please introduce yourself.
Hi, my name is Sydney and I’m a Zero Trust Security Engineer at TikTok!
What are you looking forward to at Women of Silicon Roundabout?
I’m looking forward to meeting Women in Tech, learning from all of the different speakers, and attending all of the events at the conference!
What advice would you give to someone looking to step up their career in tech?
My biggest piece of advice is just to learn — the more you invest into yourself, the more knowledge & experience you’ll have — no learning goes in vain!
What do you see as the biggest challenge currently facing women in technology?
The lack of a pipeline to get women into technology is currently a big challenge. From a young age, engineering, tinkering & building were all hobbies that were designed by ‘boys’. In college, all computer science classes only have men, and extracurricular activities like robotics, computer science honour societies, and internships are full of men. It’s therefore not a surprise that even in industry now, there aren’t many women. Helping support women from a young age and encouraging them to learn more about STEM will increase awareness of the opportunities technology can hold for them and create a new generation — one where the workforce is full of women in tech.
The theme of the event is resilience; what does resilience mean to you?
Resilience means putting in the hard work to defy the odds and succeed. In our professional lives (and our personal lives, too), there are going to be challenges. We cannot let these challenges hinder us — it’s how we overcome these obstacles that define us and allow us to become a better version of ourselves.
Finally, what can attendees expect from your session at WoSR?
Expect to learn more about what Zero Trust is, how it works, and why so many big companies like TikTok use Zero Trust!
Join Sydney Ng for her session “What Is Zero Trust?” at Women of Silicon Roundabout on 22-23rd November.
